Nvidia became the world’s most valuable public company by market capitalization in June 2024.
On June 18, 2024, Nvidia’s market capitalization reached about $3.34 trillion, briefly placing it above Microsoft and Apple. The change followed a dramatic rise in demand for Nvidia’s graphics processing units, which are widely used to train and run artificial-intelligence systems.
Nvidia began as a specialist graphics-chip company, but its CUDA software platform and data-center products expanded its importance beyond video games. Its market-cap leadership was not permanent: share-price movements later changed the order among the largest public companies. Market capitalization ranks publicly traded equity and should not be confused with a company’s annual sales or the value of every business asset.
