Nvidia became the world’s most valuable public company by market capitalization in 2024 after overtaking Microsoft.
Nvidia briefly took the top position in June 2024 as its share price climbed following exceptional growth in demand for AI accelerators. Its market capitalization exceeded those of Microsoft and Apple during that period.
The company’s rise was powered by data-center sales, especially systems using its advanced GPUs. Technology firms and cloud providers bought large quantities of Nvidia hardware to support generative-AI models and other intensive computing workloads.
The ranking was not permanent. Market capitalization changes whenever share prices move, and the leading position can change quickly among giant public companies. Nvidia’s record therefore describes a point in market history, not a fixed judgment about which company is largest by revenue, assets, or employees.
