Alphabet became the parent of Google after a 2015 corporate restructuring.
Alphabet Inc. was announced in August 2015 and became Google’s publicly traded parent company later that year. Under the new structure, Google became a subsidiary focused on core products such as search, advertising, YouTube, and Android, while other ventures were placed under Alphabet separately.
Larry Page became Alphabet’s chief executive and Sergey Brin became its president at the restructuring. Sundar Pichai became Google’s chief executive, later becoming Alphabet’s CEO in 2019. Alphabet is often called Google in everyday conversation, but the two names refer to different levels of the corporate organization.
