Apple became the first company to surpass US$3 trillion in market capitalization in January 2022.
Apple briefly crossed the $3 trillion level during intraday trading on January 3, 2022, when its share price reached approximately $182.86. Because market capitalization changes continuously while markets are open, the company did not necessarily remain above that level for the entire session.
The milestone followed Apple’s earlier records at $1 trillion in 2018 and $2 trillion in 2020. Investors valued the company’s large hardware business together with its growing services ecosystem, which included the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, and Apple TV+.
This milestone is sometimes confused with a company’s revenue or balance-sheet assets. Market capitalization measures the value assigned by shareholders to the company’s outstanding stock and can rise or fall without an equivalent change in sales.
