Apple became the first company to reach a US$3 trillion market capitalization during intraday trading in January 2022.
Apple briefly crossed the threshold on January 3, 2022, when its share price reached about US$182.86. Because market capitalization changes continuously during trading, the company moved back below the level before the session ended.
This distinction is important: reaching a valuation intraday is different from closing above it. Apple later crossed the US$3 trillion level again in 2023, while other giant technology companies competed closely for the highest market capitalization.
The milestone reflected the value investors placed on Apple's hardware ecosystem, services business, brand, and expected future earnings. It was not a statement that Apple had US$3 trillion in revenue or cash.
