Apple became the first company to close a trading session with a $3 trillion market value.
Apple first crossed the $3 trillion threshold briefly during intraday trading on January 3, 2022. It later achieved the more demanding milestone of finishing a session above that level on June 30, 2023. A closing market capitalization uses the final share price of the trading day, rather than a temporary high reached during the session.
The distinction matters because a company can pass a valuation threshold for only seconds before its share price falls back. Apple’s June 2023 close followed a strong rise in its stock price and renewed investor interest in its services business, installed-device base, and plans involving new products such as its Vision Pro headset.
Apple’s market value is not the same as its annual revenue or total assets. It represents what public investors collectively value the company’s equity at in the stock market, and it can change every trading day.
