Apple became the first company headquartered in the United States to reach a $2 trillion market value.
The milestone occurred on August 19, 2020, when Apple’s share price pushed its total market capitalization above $2 trillion. Apple had already set the U.S. record for reaching $1 trillion in 2018, making the second milestone part of a rapid increase in investor valuation.
Apple’s business combines hardware, software, and services. Its tightly integrated products encourage customers to remain within the company’s ecosystem, while services such as the App Store, Apple Music, and iCloud provide recurring sales alongside device purchases.
The wording matters because Saudi Aramco, headquartered in Saudi Arabia, also became one of the world’s first companies valued around $2 trillion. Market-cap rankings compare listed equity values and can change whenever the share prices of major companies move.
