Nvidia became the first semiconductor company to exceed a $1 trillion market capitalization in 2023.
The milestone followed a dramatic rise in demand for Nvidia’s GPUs, which are widely used for artificial-intelligence computation. Investors also valued the company’s networking products, data-center systems, and CUDA software ecosystem.
Nvidia’s achievement is distinct from TSMC’s role in the semiconductor industry. TSMC manufactures chips for customers, while Nvidia designs processors and complete computing platforms. Both companies benefited from the expansion of AI hardware, but they occupy different parts of the semiconductor supply chain.
Nvidia began as a graphics-chip company focused on computer games. Its technology later expanded into professional visualization, scientific computing, autonomous vehicles, and large-scale data centers, transforming its business profile and market valuation.
