Apple became the first company to close a trading day with a US$3 trillion market capitalization.
The closing milestone came in June 2023, when Apple shares finished above the price needed to value the company at three trillion dollars. This differed from Apple’s earlier January 2022 achievement, when it briefly crossed US$3 trillion during intraday trading but did not finish the session at that level.
A closing market capitalization uses the official share price at the end of the trading session. Analysts often distinguish between intraday records and closing records because a stock can cross a threshold temporarily and then retreat before the market shuts.
Apple’s valuation reflects investor expectations about future profits, not the amount of cash held by the company. Its hardware business, subscription services, semiconductor design, and global customer base all influence how investors value its shares. Market-cap leadership can change whenever major companies’ share prices move.
