Apple became the first company to briefly reach a US$2 trillion market capitalization in August 2020.
Apple crossed the threshold during trading on August 19, 2020, roughly two years after it became the first publicly traded company valued at US$1 trillion. The milestone was based on the market value of all Apple shares, not on the company’s cash holdings or yearly revenue.
The rise followed strong investor interest in Apple’s devices and services businesses. Its product range included the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and subscription services such as Apple Music and Apple TV+.
Saudi Aramco also reached a valuation near US$2 trillion around its 2019 listing, but Apple’s 2020 milestone is generally cited as the first time a publicly traded company reached that level in ordinary stock-market trading. Market values can fluctuate daily.
