Nvidia crossed the $3 trillion market-capitalization level in June 2024 as demand for its graphics processors and artificial-intelligence infrastructure drove its share price sharply higher. The company’s chips became central to training and running large AI models.
Nvidia began as a graphics-chip specialist, especially known for GPUs used in computer graphics and gaming. Its CUDA software platform also helped make Nvidia hardware important for scientific computing and machine learning.
This milestone is distinct from being the first company of any kind to close above $3 trillion, a record associated with another technology company. Nvidia’s distinction concerns the semiconductor industry specifically.
