Apple became the first publicly traded company to reach a US$1 trillion market capitalization according to a closing price in 2018.
Apple crossed the threshold on August 2, 2018, when its shares closed at a level that placed the company’s market value above US$1 trillion. Some accounts describe the milestone as occurring during intraday trading, while others emphasize the closing figure; both descriptions refer to the same historic trading day.
The calculation used Apple’s share price and its outstanding share count. Apple had completed stock splits over its history, including a four-for-one split in 2020, but stock splits do not by themselves change a company’s total market value.
The milestone showed how investors valued Apple’s ecosystem, which combined hardware, software, services, and a powerful global brand. It did not mean Apple was the world’s largest company by every measure, because rankings differ by market cap, revenue, assets, and enterprise value.
