Apple became the first publicly traded company to reach a $3 trillion valuation during trading in January 2022.
Apple briefly crossed the threshold on January 3, 2022, as its share price rose during the session. It later slipped below the level before the market closed, so the event was an intraday milestone rather than a full-day closing record.
Market capitalization is not a fixed company attribute. It changes with the share price and with changes in the number of shares outstanding. That is why reports distinguish between intraday valuations and closing valuations.
Apple’s later closing above $3 trillion in June 2023 confirmed the milestone more firmly. Microsoft became the next company to pass $3 trillion during trading in January 2024.
