LVMH became the first European firm to surpass a $500 billion market capitalization.
LVMH crossed a $500 billion market capitalization in April 2023, becoming the first European company reported to reach that level. The French group’s value reflected investor confidence in luxury-goods demand and the global strength of its portfolio of brands.
LVMH is short for Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Its businesses span fashion and leather goods, wines and spirits, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, and selective retailing. Brands associated with the group include Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari, and Moët & Chandon.
This milestone is sometimes confused with the value of a single luxury brand. LVMH is a diversified holding group whose market capitalization reflects the combined expectations surrounding its many businesses. Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s chairman and chief executive, was also frequently ranked among the world’s wealthiest individuals as the company’s share price rose, but personal wealth and corporate market capitalization are separate measures.
