LVMH became the first European company to exceed a $500 billion market capitalization in April 2023.
The French luxury-goods group passed the threshold on April 24, 2023, after its share price rose in Paris trading. The milestone made LVMH the first European-listed company valued above $500 billion and placed it among the world’s most valuable public businesses.
LVMH is the parent group of more than 75 maisons, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Moët & Chandon, Hennessy, Bulgari and Tiffany & Co. Its unusually broad portfolio spans fashion, wines and spirits, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, and selective retailing.
The acronym LVMH comes from the 1987 merger of Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. Bernard Arnault serves as chairman and chief executive. The company’s market value can fluctuate with luxury demand, currency movements and investor expectations, so the $500 billion figure describes a market moment rather than a permanent valuation.
