Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company became the first Asian semiconductor firm to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization in 2024.
TSMC crossed the milestone in July 2024 as investors responded to booming demand for advanced chips used in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The company is based in Taiwan and is the world’s leading dedicated semiconductor foundry.
Unlike an integrated chip company that designs and manufactures its own branded processors, TSMC manufactures chips designed by customers. Its clients include major technology companies, and its advanced process technology is crucial to modern smartphones, servers, and AI accelerators.
The milestone refers to TSMC’s equity value on public markets. It does not mean that TSMC’s annual sales or physical assets were worth exactly $1 trillion.
