TSMC became the first Asian company to exceed a $1 trillion market capitalization in July 2024.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company passed the milestone in July 2024 as demand for advanced chips used in artificial-intelligence systems drove investor enthusiasm. TSMC is one of the world’s most important contract chip manufacturers.
Unlike an integrated device maker, TSMC generally manufactures chips designed by other companies rather than selling a large portfolio of its own consumer-branded processors. Its customers include major semiconductor and technology firms.
The claim should not be confused with the earlier market-value records of Asian companies in other sectors. Saudi Aramco, Tencent, and Alibaba each reached major valuation milestones earlier, but TSMC’s achievement specifically concerned a semiconductor foundry based in Taiwan.
