Nvidia became the first artificial-intelligence-focused chipmaker to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization in 2024.
Nvidia briefly reached approximately $3 trillion in June 2024 as demand for its graphics-processing units surged. These processors became central to training and running generative-artificial-intelligence systems, including large language models and other data-intensive applications.
Nvidia originally became known for graphics chips used in personal computers and video games. It later expanded into data-center computing, networking, software, and specialized accelerated-computing platforms. That transition transformed the company from a major gaming-chip designer into a critical supplier for modern AI infrastructure.
Nvidia’s 10-for-one stock split took effect in June 2024. A split reduces the per-share price but does not itself change market capitalization. The company is sometimes confused with TSMC, which manufactures many Nvidia chips but is a separate corporation.
