LVMH became Europe’s most valuable publicly traded company by market capitalization during 2021.
LVMH, formally Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, overtook Swiss food company Nestlé in 2021 as the European company with the highest stock-market value. Its market capitalization was driven by strong demand for luxury goods, especially in fashion, leather goods, jewelry, watches, and wines and spirits.
The group owns more than 70 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., and Moët & Chandon. Bernard Arnault serves as chairman and chief executive, and the company is headquartered in Paris.
Market capitalization changes with share prices, so rankings can shift even when a company’s operations remain the same. LVMH’s ranking is also distinct from revenue rankings: a company can have lower sales than a major industrial group while receiving a higher market valuation because investors expect stronger profitability and growth.
