LVMH became Europe’s first publicly traded company valued at more than US$500 billion in April 2023.
LVMH, whose full name is Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, crossed the milestone as luxury-goods shares rose and the company reported strong sales. Its market capitalization reflected the combined strength of a large portfolio rather than a single product line.
The group owns brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., and Moët & Chandon. Bernard Arnault is LVMH’s chairman and chief executive, and the Arnault family is its controlling shareholder through a holding structure.
Currency movements matter when comparing market caps internationally because European shares are priced in euros while rankings are often reported in US dollars. The US$500 billion figure therefore depends partly on exchange rates and the measurement date.
