Nvidia is the company among the world's largest by market cap that was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem.
The three founders established Nvidia in California with the goal of developing specialized graphics processors. Jensen Huang became chief executive, a position he has held since the company's founding. Nvidia's name was reportedly inspired by the Latin word “invidia,” meaning envy.
Nvidia first became widely known for graphics processing units used in personal computers and video games. Its CUDA software platform later helped developers use Nvidia GPUs for general-purpose parallel computing.
Nvidia's graphics processors became especially important in artificial intelligence and data centers. It is sometimes confused with AMD or Intel, which also make computing hardware, but Nvidia is particularly associated with GPUs and its CUDA ecosystem.
