Which company acquired Oakley in 2007?
Answer
Luxottica
Answer
Luxottica
Luxottica acquired Oakley in 2007.
The Italian eyewear company announced the proposed Oakley deal in June 2007, agreeing to pay $29.30 in cash for each Oakley share. The transaction valued the company at approximately $2.1 billion and was structured as a merger through a Luxottica subsidiary.
The deal closed on November 14, 2007, making Oakley an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Luxottica. Oakley continued as a distinct consumer brand, while Luxottica added its sports-performance eyewear, sunglasses, goggles and related products to a much larger global eyewear portfolio.
Marchon and Safilo were major eyewear companies, but they did not acquire Oakley. Essilor was also a significant optical-industry name; its later combination with Luxottica created EssilorLuxottica in 2018, more than a decade after the Oakley purchase. That later corporate development can cause confusion about which company bought Oakley.
