Which commercial magnetic-levitation train reaches 431 kilometres per hour in Shanghai?

The story behind the answer

The Shanghai Maglev Train reaches 431 kilometres per hour in commercial operation.

The line connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport with Longyang Road station. It uses German-developed Transrapid technology, in which magnetic forces lift and propel the train along a dedicated guideway. Commercial service began in 2004, making it the first high-speed commercial maglev line in the world.

The fastest scheduled journeys reach 431 km/h, although some services run at a lower maximum speed depending on the time of day. The airport trip covers roughly 30 kilometres and can take only a few minutes, after which passengers can transfer to Shanghai’s metro network.

The Shanghai Maglev is distinct from conventional high-speed trains such as China’s CRH and Fuxing series. It also differs from Japan’s L0 Series, which has achieved a higher test speed but is not the same commercial service.
