Blondie is the comic strip featuring Dagwood and Blondie Bumstead.
Chic Young created Blondie, which debuted on September 8, 1930. The strip originally focused on Blondie Boopabadoop and Dagwood Bumstead’s courtship. They married in 1933, after which the strip developed into a family and workplace comedy centered on their household.
Dagwood is known for his large sandwiches, struggles with his employer J. C. Dithers, and attempts to balance work with family life. Blondie is portrayed as capable and practical, while their children Alexander and Cookie became recurring characters. Their dog Daisy is another familiar member of the cast.
After Chic Young’s death in 1973, his son Dean Young continued writing the strip. Blondie remains one of the longest-running American newspaper comic strips and has also inspired films, radio programs, television adaptations, and animated productions.
