Tenacious D appears in Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” music video.
The comedy duo’s Jack Black and Kyle Gass play two airline cabin cleaners who secretly place sleeping powder in the aircraft’s coffee maker. The video turns the song into a broad airplane-disaster spoof, with the band members taking on multiple roles as the flight descends into comic chaos.
Directed by Jesse Peretz, the 1999 video parodies the film Airplane! and also draws on the Airport films. Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, and Taylor Hawkins play themselves and other characters, while Black and Gass provide the most recognizable guest appearance as the mischievous cleaners.
The cameo also reflects the bands’ personal connection: Tenacious D had befriended Grohl after meeting him at a Los Angeles performance. Grohl later played drums on Tenacious D’s debut album, making the video appearance part of a broader musical relationship rather than a random celebrity cameo.
