Which comedian created the character Garth Algar for the 1992 film Wayne's World?

The story behind the answer

Dana Carvey created the character Garth Algar for the 1992 film Wayne's World.

Carvey developed Garth on Saturday Night Live, where the character appeared in sketches alongside Mike Myers's Wayne Campbell. Garth was recognizable for his oversized glasses, timid manner, long hair, and enthusiastic knowledge of heavy metal.

Wayne's World began as an SNL recurring sketch before becoming a feature film directed by Penelope Spheeris. Carvey and Myers reprised their roles in Wayne's World 2 in 1993. Although Myers played the title character, Carvey's Garth became one of the film's most memorable comic creations.

A common mix-up is attributing both main characters to Myers, because Wayne is the film's title character and Myers co-wrote the screenplay. Carvey was also known for SNL impressions of figures including George H. W. Bush and Johnny Carson.
