Which college did Georgia O'Keeffe attend in Chicago in 1905?
Answer
School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Answer
School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Georgia O'Keeffe attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1905.
She enrolled at the school in 1905 and studied academic art, including drawing and painting. The institution was, and remains, one of the major American art schools connected with a museum: the Art Institute of Chicago.
O'Keeffe later attended the Art Students League in New York, where she studied with William Merritt Chase and won a scholarship for a still-life painting. Her training at these schools initially followed conventional academic models, before the ideas of Arthur Wesley Dow encouraged her to pursue a more personal approach.
The Chicago school is sometimes confused with the University of Chicago because both are prominent institutions in the city. O'Keeffe did not attend the University of Chicago. The School of the Art Institute remains known by the abbreviation SAIC.
