Swift and Jack Antonoff wrote the song, and they produced it with Alwyn. Alwyn’s credited participation was initially presented through the pseudonym William Bowery, a name also associated with his work on other Folklore and Evermore songs.
The pseudonym caused considerable fan speculation before Swift confirmed Alwyn’s identity. He contributed to production and songwriting on several songs, but he was not one of the two credited songwriters of “august”; that writing credit belongs to Swift and Antonoff.
