The quarter dollar received five special designs in the 2026 United States Semiquincentennial coinage. The five-quarter series was the largest denomination-specific design group in the circulating commemorative program.
Congress authorized semiquincentennial coin designs through the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020. The law permitted anniversary-related redesigns across six circulating denominations and specifically authorized five quarter-dollar designs. The program was intended to place the 250th anniversary into everyday American currency.
The quarter dollar was especially suited to a multi-coin series because the United States Mint had previously used quarters for themed programs, including the 50 State Quarters and America the Beautiful Quarters. The semiquincentennial series included historical and symbolic subjects connected with the nation’s founding and development.
The five-quarter total is not the number of all redesigned denominations. The broader program included cents, nickels, dimes, half dollars, and dollar coins as well. Thus, “five” refers specifically to quarter-dollar designs.
