The quarter received five separate semiquincentennial designs in 2026. The U.S. Mint’s 2026 program uses the quarter dollar to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The designs commemorate major episodes and documents in the nation’s founding story, including the Mayflower Compact, the American Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. This makes the program a series of circulating commemorative quarters rather than five different denominations.
The question can cause confusion because the semiquincentennial also involves other coins, including commemorative gold and silver pieces. The five-design reference, however, specifically concerns the quarter dollar. It also follows the American Women Quarters program, which issued five reverse designs annually from 2022 through 2025.
The word “semiquincentennial” means a 250th anniversary: “semi-” plus “quincentennial,” or half of 500 years. The 2026 designs therefore mark 250 years since the 1776 Declaration of Independence.
