america250.org served as the official website for the United States Semiquincentennial commemoration.
The semiquincentennial marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776. Its principal national planning effort is branded America250, and the domain america250.org is the public website associated with the United States Semiquincentennial Commission and its programmes.
The name can be confusing because “semiquincentennial” is an uncommon term: “semi” means half, while “quincentennial” means 500 years, producing 250 years. The anniversary is also widely called America’s 250th anniversary or America250.
The commemoration is distinct from the earlier U.S. centennial in 1876, sesquicentennial in 1926, and bicentennial in 1976. It also should not be confused with Freedom 250, a separate White House-linked initiative that emerged later. The official America250 identity and website were established through the congressional commission’s nationwide commemorative work.
