Which Coca-Cola product was the first soft drink consumed in space?

The story behind the answer

Coca-Cola was the first soft drink consumed in space.

Astronaut John Young reportedly carried a small Coca-Cola can aboard Gemini 3 in 1965, the first crewed Gemini mission. The can was not part of a formal public beverage experiment, and the drink’s behavior in microgravity was not the same as drinking it on Earth.

A more organized comparison came later during the Space Shuttle era, when Coca-Cola and Pepsi developed special containers for use in orbit. The 1985 Space Shuttle Challenger mission carried both beverages, allowing astronauts to test them in microgravity.

The 1965 milestone refers to Coca-Cola’s first consumption in space. It should not be confused with the later shuttle test involving both rival brands.
