Which Coca-Cola brand launched in 2005 as a zero-calorie cola?

The story behind the answer

Coca-Cola Zero launched in 2005 as a zero-calorie cola.

The product was designed to provide a taste profile closer to regular Coca-Cola while containing no calories. It targeted consumers who wanted the classic brand experience without sugar, but who did not necessarily identify with Diet Coke’s established positioning.

Coca-Cola Zero was marketed internationally under that name for years. In 2016, the company reformulated and renamed it Coca-Cola Zero Sugar in many markets, emphasizing the absence of sugar more explicitly. The original launch name, however, was Coca-Cola Zero.

It is easy to confuse this product with Diet Coke, which launched much earlier, in 1982, or with Coca-Cola Life, a later reduced-calorie product sweetened partly with stevia. These products occupied different positions in Coca-Cola’s changing portfolio.
