Arsenal won the opening match of the 2026–27 Premier League season against Coventry City.
The match was played at the Emirates Stadium on Friday 21 August 2026. Arsenal, the defending champions, started their campaign with a 3–0 victory over Coventry City, one of the three clubs promoted to the Premier League for the new season.
The result gave Arsenal three points and a positive start to their title defence. Coventry’s defeat was less representative of the promoted clubs’ overall weekend: Hull City defeated Manchester United, while Ipswich Town beat Sunderland in their own opening fixtures.
The opening match is sometimes confused with Manchester City’s fixture against Bournemouth because that game was one of Sunday’s most notable contests. Arsenal versus Coventry was first chronologically and officially opened the league season.
