Which club won the first NRLW premiership in 2018?

The story behind the answer

The Brisbane Broncos won the first NRLW premiership in 2018, defeating the Sydney Roosters 34–12 in the inaugural grand final.

The first National Rugby League Women’s season was played in 2018 as a short competition involving four teams. Brisbane finished strongly and met the Roosters in the grand final at ANZ Stadium in Sydney. The Broncos’ victory made them the first champions of the NRLW era.

The match featured several prominent Australian players, including Brisbane captain Ali Brigginshaw and fullback Chelsea Baker. Brigginshaw was named player of the match after helping the Broncos control the contest. The 22-point margin remains part of the competition’s founding history.

The NRLW developed from earlier women’s rugby league competitions and representative matches. It should not be confused with the separate Women’s Rugby League World Cup, which is an international tournament. The 2018 NRLW season was also much shorter than later expanded editions.
