Which club won the 2019 World Club Challenge by defeating Wigan Warriors 20–8?
Answer
Sydney Roosters
Sydney Roosters won the 2019 World Club Challenge by defeating Wigan Warriors 20–8.
The match was played at DW Stadium in Wigan on 17 February 2019. The Roosters, reigning NRL premiers, faced Wigan, the reigning Super League champions, in the annual meeting of the two major club competitions.
Sydney’s victory made the Roosters world club champions and continued the strong record of NRL teams in the fixture. Wigan were the defending World Club Challenge holders after beating Cronulla-Sutherland in 2017.
The World Club Challenge is separate from the Rugby League World Cup. It is a club match, whereas the World Cup is an international tournament involving national teams.
