Which club won the 1908 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership?
Answer
South Sydney
Answer
South Sydney
South Sydney won the 1908 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, the first premiership in the competition’s history.
The 1908 season was the inaugural season of the NSWRFL, established after rugby league split from the existing rugby union structure in New South Wales. South Sydney defeated Eastern Suburbs in the final to claim the title.
South Sydney, founded in 1908, is one of the competition’s oldest surviving clubs. Eastern Suburbs, now known as the Sydney Roosters, was another foundation club and became one of the sport’s major teams.
This premiership is distinct from the first NRL premiership in 1998, which was won by the Brisbane Broncos. The NSWRFL later became the New South Wales Rugby League, then the Australian Rugby League, and ultimately part of the modern NRL competition.
