Which club won its first 2026–27 Premier League match at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium?

The story behind the answer

Everton won its first 2026–27 Premier League match at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton beat Crystal Palace 2–0 on 22 August 2026, making the fixture a successful opening league match at the club’s new stadium. The venue replaced Goodison Park as Everton’s home ground and was listed with a capacity of 52,769 for the season.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the opening goal, and Thierno Barry added a second after half-time. The victory was Everton’s first opening Premier League win in five years and ended a run of eight top-flight matches without a victory.

The stadium name is an important detail because Everton’s previous home, Goodison Park, had been associated with the club since 1892. The move therefore made the 2026–27 opener a landmark match in Everton’s history as well as an ordinary league fixture.

Crystal Palace began the match under new manager Pierre Sage. Palace’s difficult afternoon also included an injury to defender Chadi Riad, who had to leave the field on a stretcher.
