Which club won back-to-back La Liga titles in 1980-81 and 1981-82?

Real Sociedad won back-to-back La Liga titles in 1980–81 and 1981–82.

The 1980–81 triumph was Real Sociedad’s first Spanish league championship. The San Sebastián club finished level on 45 points with Real Madrid, but won the title through the head-to-head tiebreaker used at the time. Its decisive campaign included a 3–1 victory over Madrid.

Real Sociedad retained the crown in 1981–82, finishing two points ahead of Barcelona. The team was managed by Alberto Ormaetxea and featured important players such as Jesús María Satrústegui, Jesús Zamora, and Roberto López Ufarte. Those consecutive titles remain the defining league achievement of the club’s golden era.

A common mix-up is confusing Real Sociedad with Athletic Bilbao, another successful Basque club. Athletic won consecutive titles later, in 1982–83 and 1983–84, but not in the two seasons named here.
