Arsenal were the defending champions when the 2026–27 Premier League began.
They had won the preceding 2025–26 Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait for another league championship. Arsenal therefore entered 2026–27 with the task of defending their crown.
Their first match was at home against Coventry City on 21 August 2026. Arsenal won 3–0, beginning their title defence with three points and a clean sheet.
The identity of the defending champion can be confused with the club that held the title before the 2025–26 season. Liverpool were the previous champions, but Arsenal replaced them after winning the 2025–26 competition. Manchester City were also former champions, but did not enter 2026–27 as holders.
