Which club signed Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool on a free transfer in 2026? Real Madrid signed Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool on a free transfer in 2026.

Konaté is a French centre-back whose route to elite football began at Paris FC and Sochaux. He made his professional debut for Sochaux in Ligue 2 before joining RB Leipzig in 2017. His Bundesliga experience established him as a powerful, athletic defender and brought him to the attention of major European clubs.

Liverpool signed Konaté from Leipzig in 2021. At Anfield, he became part of a high-level defensive group and gained experience in English football and European competition. His move to Real Madrid continued a career path linking prominent clubs in France, Germany, England and Spain.

“Free transfer” means Liverpool did not receive a transfer fee when Konaté left under the terms of his contract. It does not mean the player had no financial cost: Real Madrid could still agree wages, bonuses and signing-on payments. The destination was Real Madrid, not Barcelona, Bayern Munich or AC Milan.
