Which club lost the 1971 European Cup final to Ajax?

Ajax defeated Panathinaikos 2–0 in the 1971 European Cup final.

The match was played at Wembley Stadium on 2 June 1971, in front of 83,179 spectators. Dick van Dijk gave Ajax the lead in the fifth minute, and Arie Haan’s late effort—deflected off Anthimos Kapsis—sealed the victory in the 87th minute.

The final was Ajax’s second European Cup final and its first triumph. Under manager Rinus Michels, the Amsterdam club had begun developing the fluid, positional style associated with “Total Football.” Panathinaikos, managed by former Hungary star Ferenc Puskás, were appearing in their first European Cup final.

This remains the only occasion on which a Greek club has reached the European Cup or Champions League final. A common mix-up is Atlético Madrid: Ajax beat Atlético in the semi-final, while Celtic were eliminated by Ajax in the quarter-final.
