Which club has won the most English Rugby League Challenge Cup finals?

Wigan Warriors have won the most English Rugby League Challenge Cup finals. Wigan’s long record in the competition includes 20 Challenge Cup victories, making the club the most successful side in the tournament’s history.

Wigan’s dominance was especially strong during the 1980s and early 1990s, when the club won the cup in eight consecutive seasons from 1988 through 1995. That run remains one of the defining achievements in English rugby league knockout competition.

The club was known as Wigan before adopting the Wigan Warriors name in 1997. Challenge Cup records can be presented differently when counting final appearances, wins or pre-1895 rugby union competitions, so the relevant figure here concerns the rugby league Challenge Cup. The competition began in 1897 and has traditionally attracted clubs from across the English game.
