Which club has the longest unbeaten run in La Liga history?

The story behind the answer

Barcelona holds La Liga’s longest unbeaten run, going 43 league matches without defeat.

The streak ran from 8 April 2017 to 13 May 2018, spanning the final eight matches of the 2016–17 season and the first 35 matches of 2017–18. Barcelona’s run included victories and draws, since “unbeaten” means avoiding defeat rather than winning every match.

The achievement is especially notable because Barcelona completed the 2017–18 league season without losing a match. Ernesto Valverde’s team won 28 games, drew nine and finished first, although its unbeaten sequence ended in the final match of the campaign against Levante.

This record is often confused with Barcelona’s 36-match unbeaten start to the 2017–18 season, which was a separate mark. The 43-game figure is the overall La Liga record, while other records measure home, away or single-season runs differently.
