Which city is McDonald's global headquarters in?

The story behind the answer

McDonald’s global headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois.

The company’s modern global headquarters is in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood at 110 North Carpenter Street. McDonald’s opened the nine-story headquarters in 2018, bringing its corporate offices and Hamburger University into a prominent Chicago location.

Chicago has a strong connection to McDonald’s corporate history. Ray Kroc opened one of the early franchise restaurants in nearby Des Plaines in 1955, and the company later operated its headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, for decades before moving back into the city.

Des Plaines, San Bernardino, and Oak Brook can therefore seem plausible. San Bernardino is where Richard and Maurice McDonald opened their original restaurant; Des Plaines was an important early Kroc location; and Oak Brook was the former headquarters. The current global headquarters, however, is in Chicago.
