Which city in Spain was Rafael Nadal born?

The story behind the answer

Rafael Nadal was born in Manacor, a city on the island of Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands. Manacor is also his hometown and the place where his professional tennis story began.

Nadal was born there on 3 June 1986 to Sebastián Nadal Homar and Ana María Parera Femenías. He began hitting tennis balls at the Manacor Tennis Club when he was three years old, with guidance from his uncle Toni Nadal. That early connection helped make Manacor central to his development long before he became a global sports star.

The city is sometimes confused with Palma, Mallorca’s capital and largest city. Palma is elsewhere on the island, while Manacor lies on Mallorca’s eastern side. Nadal has remained closely associated with Manacor throughout his career, and his flagship academy was built there in 2016.

The academy campus, sports center, and museum have turned Manacor into an important destination for tennis fans. Although Nadal later lived and trained in several places, Manacor remains the city most closely linked with his origins and sporting identity.
