Edinburgh hosts the Hogmanay street party and concert known as Concert in the Gardens.
Concert in the Gardens is part of Edinburgh’s large Hogmanay program, which takes place around the transition from December 31 to January 1. The event is held in West Princes Street Gardens, beneath the city’s castle skyline, and is separate from the main street party even though both belong to the same festival program.
Edinburgh’s modern Hogmanay celebrations developed into a major organized event in the late twentieth century. They combine concerts, fireworks, a torchlight procession on an earlier evening, and other public activities.
“Hogmanay” is the Scots term for New Year’s Eve or the New Year celebration. It is not the name of a single concert, so the city’s broader celebration and Concert in the Gardens should not be treated as interchangeable names.
