London hosted the first European performance by the American punk band Dead Boys.
Dead Boys were formed in Cleveland in 1975 by singer Stiv Bators, guitarist Cheetah Chrome, guitarist Jimmy Zero, bassist Jeff Magnum, and drummer Johnny Blitz. The group later moved to New York and became closely associated with the developing punk scene there.
Their first European performance took place in London in 1977. The trip connected the Cleveland band with the British punk network and helped establish its reputation beyond the United States.
Dead Boys released their debut album, Young, Loud and Snotty, in 1977. Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam were also important cities in the European punk circuit, but they were not the location of this specific first European appearance. The question concerns the band’s first performance on the continent, not its first American show.
