The 2014 UEFA Champions League final was hosted in Lisbon, Portugal.
Real Madrid faced city rivals Atlético Madrid at the Estádio da Luz on 24 May 2014. The venue is Benfica’s home stadium and had previously hosted matches at UEFA Euro 2004, including that tournament’s final. UEFA selected Lisbon as the final venue in 2012.
The match became famous as Real Madrid’s “La Décima”—their tenth European Cup or Champions League title. Atlético led for much of the game after Diego Godín’s first-half goal, but Sergio Ramos equalised in stoppage time. Real Madrid then scored three times in extra time through Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo, winning 4–1.
Lisbon is sometimes confused with later final venues associated with Real Madrid. The club won in Cardiff in 2017, Milan in 2016 and Madrid in 2010, but its 2014 triumph took place in Portugal.
