London hosted Bob Marley’s 1977 concert at the Rainbow Theatre.
The Rainbow Theatre was a major music venue in Finsbury Park, north London. Marley and the Wailers performed there during the European touring period connected with the album Exodus and the single “Jamming.”
London was a particularly important city for Marley’s international career. The United Kingdom provided an early and influential European market for Jamaican music, and performances there helped reggae reach listeners beyond the Caribbean and North America.
The venue name can cause confusion because the Wailers also played the Lyceum Theatre in London, including the celebrated 1975 concerts that produced the Live! album. The Rainbow Theatre engagement was a separate London performance during the later Exodus-era period.
